Dermatology
Veterinary dermatology is the specialty in veterinary medicine that diagnoses and treats skin diseases of animals. This includes diseases that affect the animal’s skin, hair coat, nails and ears.
Because your pet cannot tell the dermatologist what its problem is, we obtain an extensive history from the pet owner, perform a thorough physical and dermatological examination and suggest specific tests that can identify the cause of the disease. Based on the diagnosis, a treatment plan is instituted. Skin diseases can be frustrating to owners because some can only be controlled and not cured. Therefore, the dermatologist communicates with the owner to reevaluate and consult on the animal’s condition from time to time after a treatment plan is instituted. Your veterinary dermatologist’s goal is to provide the highest quality of care and make your pet as comfortable as possible.
Your veterinary dermatologist can diagnose and treat many medical conditions, including:
- Otitis (Ear disease)
- Bacterial skin disease
- Fungal/ Yeast skin disease
- Parasitic skin diseases (i.e. fleas, ticks, mites, lice)
